Tokyo 2016: A Photo Report / CCJ in 東京:フォト・レポート

blog

Meander is a space for documentation and experimentation within our website, a place to reflect on our projects and artists, as well as a way to explore intersections between those works, artists, and themes we study under our mission (Japanese experimental moving image works made in 1950s-1980s), and those that fall outside of our mission’s specific framework of timeframe, genres, and nationality.

Meander may take multiple forms including essays, introductions to artists and their work, online screening programs, or special digital projects. Offerings in Meander may suggest oblique angles from which to see CCJ’s mission-specific works, artists, histories, or practices.

CCJ is pleased to repot its first program in Tokyo, the Collection Survey & Professional Exchange, which took place on November 21-November 26, 2016. With generous grant from the US-Japan Friendship Commission, CCJ invited two guests from the Moving Image Archiving and Preservation (MIAP) program at New York University, Professor Mona Jimenez and Laurie Duke. Below are the programs we presented:

  1. Collection Survey at an artist's studio

  2. Workshop at Mori Art Museum on Digital Asset Management presented by Laurie Duke.

  3. Public Talk, "The Development and Future Direction of Alternative Moving Image Archives in the U.S. and Japan" with Mona Jimenez & Akira Tochigi, Curator at National Film Center, at Nihon University College of Art, co-presented by the Japan Society of Image Arts & Sciences (JASIAS)

  4. Community Archiving Workshop at Nihon University College of Art, with collection of artist Ko Nakajima

  5. Meetings with archivists, funders, curators, and researchers
